In other news, former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill makes his last visit to the British House of Commons. In Moscow, Anastas Mikoyan becomes Soviet President. In London, the Beatles´ first film, "A Hard Day´s Night" is released to British audiences. |
The St. Louis Cardinals win the World Series in the seventh game against the New York Yankees. Fred Hansen sets the new pole vault record at 17 feet 4 inches. The Cleveland Browns shut out the Baltimore Colts 27-0 to capture the National Football League title. A horse named Northern Dancer, ridden by jockey W. Hartack, emerges victorious in the Kentucky Derby. In the National Basketball Association championships, the Boston Celtics beat San Francisco. This is the sixth straight NBA title win for Boston. |

Mattel introduces the Thingmaker under the brand name Creepy Crawlers. It consists ofliquid Plasti-Goop which is poured into metal molds and heated. The rubbery replicas of yucky insects were pimarily created to scare parents as the kids put them on clothes, in cereal bowls and plates of mashed potatoes.
