The Brazilian soccer team defeated Sweden 5-2 to win soccer´s World Cup and a horse named Tim Tam ridden by jockey I. Valenzuela won the Kentucky Derby. Floyd Patterson knocked out Roy Harris in the 12th round in Los Angeles to remain Heavyweight Champion.
